Northern Burlington has begun gathering information that will help us develop a new Strategic Plan. If you have not already, please consider providing feedback at this ThoughtExchange link. If you have already completed the survey, you can go back and rate responses that others have submitted. This online platform allows you to contribute by answering questions, sharing your thoughts, and rating the ideas of others. This feedback will be the foundation that will shape our new plan. We will host forums later this winter to discuss the results and next steps. |

If your child is missing an item, particularly a piece of clothing or a water bottle, please encourage them to check the lost and found. Most of our lost and found items are on tables outside the gymnasium and items that are more valuable are on the main office counter (jewelry, electronics, etc). Ultimately, whatever is not picked up is donated at different times of the year to the PTSC clothing drive |

SFAs may be experiencing increased calls from families concerned about the potential loss of SNAP benefits on November 1st. Please note the New Jersey Basic Needs Information Hub offers a comprehensive listing of websites that can assist households in locating a local food pantry or soup kitchen. Families may also choose to access the Community Food Bank of New Jersey, Food Bank of South Jersey, Fulfill, Norwescap, and Mercer Street Friends websites directly to search for local food resources.
Thank you for providing these important resources to families at this time, and for your unwavering work to ensure New Jersey students receive healthy, nutritious meals every day. |

If you are looking forward to being with family during the Thanksgiving holiday that is something to be grateful for. For many teens and adults alike, it can be a stressful time, due to unrealistic expectations, resurfacing conflicts, differing viewpoints, criticism, lack of boundaries and sometimes even grief and loss due to death, divorce or estrangement. For one, media and cultural narratives frequently paint a picture of perfect families around perfectly arranged food, and just right decor. When reality falls short, it can cause disappointment and frustration. Also, the holidays tend to extend time with family members which can lead to more arguments or a tense environment. Discussions of hot topics like politics, or personal life choices(single status or a teen’s blue hair) can contribute to anxiety. Often people feel obligated to attend family gatherings or engage in difficult conversations which can cause resentment or overwhelm. It’s hard to set boundaries with family members for fear of hurt feelings. Lastly, the absence of loved ones can exacerbate feelings of loneliness and sadness.
However, the Mayo Clinic Press, in an article titled Tips for Taking Control of Holiday Stress, describes holiday stress and anxiety above as “unwanted guests”. Here is what they say to minimize holiday dread: -Acknowledge your feelings. Allow yourself and your teen to feel all the feelings and even cry if need be. Find someone to share your feelings with and you might just find you are not alone in them. -Reach out. Seek support, even helping others is a good way to help ourselves. -Be realistic. It’s not realistic to feel holiday joy all the time and it can be helpful to adjust expectations before going into the gathering. -Set aside differences. Keep conversations on the surface/tread lightly with ones you know could easily escalate -Saying no is ok. If you are overwhelmed or even need to leave early to recharge your social battery, that’s better than saying something you might regret. Taking breaks and going for a short walk can really help. -Keep up with healthy habits and self-care. Keeping everyone’s normal routine intact as best as possible is a good strategy too. |
