Clinical Corner

So I have seen the term adulting often, but today I came across the term “teenagering”, such as in the sentence, “Every teen needs a fun, healthy outlet to break free from the stress of ‘teenagering’”.  In 70 Cool Hobbies for Teens (That Aren’t Boring), from RaisingTeenagersToday.com the article states the bonuses of teens having a hobby:

·         Boosts Confidence and Self-Esteem-can help foster a sense of pride, identity and help them master a new skill which leads to feeling competent.

·         Encouraging creativity-hobbies can really be a powerful vehicle for self expression, especially when they fall in the art realm.

·         Promotes Mental and Physical Well-Being-it doesn’t matter what it is as long as it provides a way for them to hit the reset button.

·         Helps Make Friends-when you are involved in a sport or dance class etc, you are surrounded by people that you have something instantly in common with.

·         It’s just plain fun-it seems that teenagers could use more fun in their lives these days and hobbies should be things they want to do rather than all the stuff they have to do.

It would be too much to list all 70 but I listed some below for a quick glance, and they vary in cost…but it may be worth it if it will achieve what the article states.  And even though this was geared towards teens, a lot of these hobbies would be good for everyone to try: magic,

photography, art, cooking or baking, singing, hiking, camping, writing/journaling, martial arts,

playing an instrument, crafting, coding, fostering animals, rock climbing, yoga, nail art and the list goes on.  For all 70 suggestions, click here.
