Middle School Parent Message

Good Afternoon,

Here are the updates from the middle school:

Parent Conferences:  Parent conferences are scheduled to take place next week.  The schedule is as follows:

November 16  12:45 pm - 2:45 pm and 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

November 17 12:40 pm - 2:40 pm

November 18 12:40 pm - 2:40 pm  Virtual Only

The email to register for parent conferences went out on November 2.  It included directions for how to register for conferences.  All Conferences are scheduled online via PTC Wizard.  While the conferences are open to all parents, there are a limited number of appointments available.  If you are not sure if a conference is necessary, feel free to contact the teacher directly.   For parents who are interested in a conference, you must make an appointment.  Please note that appointments are on a first come, first serve basis.  If you are unable to meet during conferences or feel that you may need more than the 10 minutes allotted per appointment, we invite you to contact your child’s teacher or counselor to make alternate arrangements.

School Pictures:  Student pictures taken on October 18 will be sent home with students on Monday, November 14.  Retakes/Make-up pictures are scheduled for Wednesday, November 23.  Parents who would like their child’s picture retaken should have their student come to the main office prior to November 23 to be added to the photo schedule for November 23.  Students will need to return the photo packet from the first sitting.

Food Drive:  The middle school will be working with the Food Bank of South Jersey to sponsor a food drive the week of December 12.  Look for information on the donations as we approach that date.

Federal Impact Aid Survey:  We continue to collect Federal Impact Aid Surveys.  If you have not submitted the form on behalf of your child, please anticipate that we will contact you or your student.  This is an important source of our school’s funding.  We appreciate your support in this regard.

PTSC News: Check our website (www.nburlington.com/page/ptsc) for more information about each of the events below.

The Fall clothing drive has begun.  See this link for more information, but basically you can bag up old clothing and other items and drop them off at the pole barn behind the middle school (enter via Island Road and signs will be posted).  Donations must be made by noon on November 18.  This is a way for families to clean out their closets and help raise money for the PTSC at the same time.

The November Holiday Dessert Fundraiser. Choose from over 40 pies, cakes, cheesecakes, and donuts from A&M Garden Center. Order until 11/14. Pick up on 11/22 at the Middle School. Order form on the PTSC website or use the following link: https://forms.gle/8L8F7wUVKCbA...

Book Fair:  Thank you for all your support with the Middle School Book Fair. We crushed our goal and sold the most books for any single fair!

PBSIS:  Northern Burlington County Regional Middle School is pleased to announce our new partnership with NJ Positive Behavior Support in Schools (NJ PBSIS – www.pbsisnj.org).  The partnership is the result of an application we submitted in June.  Following a competitive review process, our application was one of 22 schools accepted to the 2022-2025 cohort.   The mission of NJ PBSIS is to help school personnel to develop and implement a tiered intervention framework that results in equitable access to interventions for behavior, conduct, and social and emotional wellness.  A tiered intervention means that we have plans in place to respond to the interventions needs of all our students.   Over the next three years, we will work with NJ PBSIS to design a culturally responsive tiered intervention framework for our school.   They will provide us with training, coaching, and planning support at no cost to our school or district. We will be making many decisions in the coming years and to ensure that our decisions reflect your needs and priorities we will be routinely sharing information and reaching out for your input and feedback.  Stay tuned for more information!  (para español, haga clic AQUI.)

COVID: As a reminder,  students who are ill should stay home.

For those students who have symptoms that might indicate the potential of COVID, they will need to be tested before returning to school.  COVID Testing can be done in a Doctor’s office, community testing site or an at-home test with results provided to the School Nurse.  If negative, students may return when feeling well and symptoms free. In cases where students do test positive for COVID, they will need to remain home for a minimum of five days. Students who test positive for COVID and return to school after five days are strongly recommended to wear a well fitting mask around others through the tenth day.  Please contact our school nurse with any questions, tpugliese@nburlington.com.

Winter Sports:  Middle school winter sports have begun tryouts this week.  Submission of sports participation packets at this point will, in all likelihood, not be cleared to play in time to participate in tryouts and these  students will not make the team.

RELAY FOR LIFE:  Relay for Life of Northern Burlington is back and it will be an IN-PERSON event on May 20-21, 2023!

From May 20th at 6:00 p.m. to May 21st at 6:00 a.m. we will gather on the football field to raise money and awareness for the American Cancer Society!   The night is spent celebrating survivors, supporting cancer patients, and remembering friends and family.   There are also events and games all night long, and you can spend the night hanging out with your friends and family.  All are welcome!!!!

Clinical Corner: November is Military Families Month! Thinking of the many stressors that military families may face, it seemed helpful to include here a breathing technique developed by the Navy Seals that anyone, at any age, can use anywhere. It’s called box breathing and it’s broken into four equal parts, each for a count of four. To touch on it here, one would clear air from the lungs and keep them empty for a count of four, inhale through the nose for a count of four, hold the breath there for four and exhale through your nose for a count of four. It can be helpful to picture the sides of a box when performing it. According to the author of this article, a trained Seal, Mark Divine, he reports that it “will make you very alert and grounded, ready for action.” It sounds like it would be good to practice when feeling stressed or scattered, in order to gather your focus.
