We hope all of them had a good experience as we start the school year. Every week we send a newsletter on Friday, or the last day of school for the week. It will include updates, reminders, and other information from the school. | |  |
The middle school Back to School Night is Wednesday, September 9th, from 6:30 pm to approximately 9:00 pm. This is a night for parents to visit with the teachers who are working with their children and learn about the different courses and programs offered at Northern. The schedule for the evening will be as follows:
6:30 pm to 7:00 pm: Welcome and program overview in the cafetorium

In order to prepare for the evening, you will need to access your child’s schedule on PowerSchool for the order of classes and the room numbers. For the evening, during the classroom visits, you will follow your child’s schedule and simply skip the lunch period. So please take a few moments to ensure you can access your child’s schedule on PowerSchool and are able to identify the room numbers. Of course, the best person to ask for assistance will be your child. They can review their schedule with you prior to Back to School Night. Please note: Parents of students taking JROTC will meet with a JROTC instructor in the MS Media Center period 1 - 2, and go to see the PE instructor, Mr. Rafferty, in the gym for period 3 - 4. We look forward to welcoming the parents of our students at Back to School Night. Please note that this is a program for parents. To ensure enough space in the classes, we request that students remain at home. | | | Surprise your student with a word of encouragement as they start the new school year. The yearbook staff will be selling "Compliment Cards" for $1 each during Back to School Night. Select a small gift and personalize the tag with a brief note. Your message will be delivered to your student on Monday, September 14 during homeroom. The yearbook table will be located in the main foyer outside the media center during back to school night. | | Please join us as we provide information to parents about Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). Title I is a federal program that allocates funding to local school districts to improve the academic achievement of low performing students, particularly in English Language Arts and/or Mathematics. At this meeting, we will talk about how NB utilizes Title I funds which can support your student’s success. Meeting information: Wednesday, September 9, 2026, 6:00pm - 6:20pm, Media Center Light Refreshments (Crudités) will be served. | | Please be aware of our Chromebook protocol:
every day. Please make sure that the student logs into their Chromebook prior to the first day of school so that all system updates are completed prior to their arrival. Students are required to use the Chromebook case issued to them (8th graders will receive their case the first day of school). It is the students’ responsibility to have their Chromebook charged every day. If a student does not have their Chromebook/charger, they will be sent to the main office to call a parent/guardian to bring what they are missing. Students who have non-working Chromebooks should report to the main office for a loaner. When students receive their repaired Chromebook, it is expected that they return the loaner. The cost to replace a charger is $35. Students will be responsible to pay for damages to their Chromebook. Please see below about the Chromebook Protection Plan that parents may purchase to cover the cost of accidental damages to Chromebooks.
| | We are pleased to continue our 1:1 Chromebook program at Northern Burlington to support your students’ learning. Please remember that families are responsible for care, maintenance, and potential repair or replacement costs for district-issued Chromebooks. Optional Protection Plan:

Students may bring their cell phones to school, however, cell phones must be secured in their locker during the school day. Students who have their cell phones out during the school day may have them confiscated and be subject to disciplinary consequences. | | (The Clinical Corner is regular feature in the parent letter and shares mental health information from the district’s clinical counselor, Nicole Kearns, NCC, LPC, LCADC ) In this first newsletter, I thought it might be helpful to explain what to expect to find in the Clinical Corner portion of it. I try hard to think about what would be most helpful to parents of teens and what parents and teens are coping with on a daily basis. The topics I cover include but are not limited to anxiety, depression, navigating transitions like the start of the school year, test anxiety, breathing techniques, teen dating and relationships, boundaries, friendships, warning signs of suicide and resources as I come across them all year. The field has already been essential to the success of our athletic teams at Northern. This is a massive upgrade for all of us, and we cannot wait to see everyone out there staying active and making memories.
This field is a major investment in our community’s future. To keep it looking pristine and performing at its best for years to come, we need everyone’s help! Protect our field by following the Rules of the Turf: 🚫 No Gum, Seeds, or Food: Shelled snacks (like sunflower seeds) and gum ruin the turf fibers and infill. 🚫 No Sugary Drinks: Water only! Spills attract pests and create sticky, unmanageable patches.
🚫 No Metal Cleats: Please wear molded cleats, turf shoes, or sneakers to avoid tearing the backing.
🚫 No Pets or Vehicles: Keep our furry friends and wheeled items (bikes, scooters) outside the fence.
🗑️ Nothing left behind: Use the trash cans provided and leave the field cleaner than you found it. Let's work together to protect this incredible asset so our community can enjoy it for a long time to come. Tag your teammates, grab your water bottles, and we'll see you on the field! 🙌⚽🏈 | | The Northern FFA Chapter will be holding its annual end of Summer/Fall Plant Sale on the following days: Saturday, September 12th- 9am-12pm Thursday, September 17th - 6:30-8:30pm Friday, September 18th - 2:30pm-4:30pm Saturday, September 19th - 9am-12pm
FALL MUMS: Mums will be available for sale starting on Saturday, September 12th and throughout the month of September. Thanks to the hard work of our horticultural students, this year our mums are bigger and better than ever before! 9" Mum pots are only $7.00 each! Students enrolled in horticultural classes at the end of the last school year planted mums in May/June and summer ag worker students have worked to grow, fertilize, and maintain them throughout the months of July and August!
FALL EVERGREEN TREES: Students will also be selling potted evergreen/shade/Christmas trees throughout the months of September and October. Students have been planting seedlings and raising the young trees that vary in age and size over the last 6 months to 2 years. All trees are in 1-gallon pots and are only $10.00 each. Varieties include Canaan Fir, Douglas Fir, Eastern White Pine and Norway Spruce. Fall is the best time to plant trees!
CLEARANCE SALE: Horticultural students need to make room in the greenhouse for upcoming projects and will be selling various herbs, succulents, and flowering & foliage potted plants, including hanging baskets, at discounted prices during the four sale days. Be sure to check out the greenhouse during any of the sale days to snag a deal on some plants!
