PTSC: The Book Fair will be at the Middle School from March 2 - 6. Thanks to your support in the Fall, we earned over $2000 in Scholastic Dollars, which we used to purchase books for the students in the media center and classrooms. The Middle School Student Leaders are planning a Fun Night on Friday, March 13, from 6:30-8:30 pm at the middle school. There will be dancing, games in the gym, snacks, and more! Students should dress casually and wear sneakers to play in the gym. Tickets are $10 or 10 NB3 tickets and will be on sale during lunches Wednesday, March 4-Wednesday, March 11. No tickets will be sold at the door and the event is for Northern Middle School students only.

On April 2 (the day before spring break) we will conduct a schoolwide community service project where we will be making bagged lunches for the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK). There are a variety of tasks in this project and we hope to involve as many students as possible with assignments ranging from sandwich making, to making flatware bundles, to packing boxes for delivery.

Below you will find important scheduling reminders as we continue preparing for the 2026–2027 school year. Please review all the information carefully and log into the PowerSchool Parent Portal to review your student’s course requests.

1. The school counselors have met with 11th-grade students to review course selections for the 2026–2027 school year and have begun meeting with current 10th-grade students. If your student has not yet met with their counselor, please remind them to expect a SmartPass from their school counselor to schedule their course selection meeting.

1. Academic Advancement Independent Student Learning Opportunities Applications (formerly known as Option II) for summer courses are due to the student’s school counselor by March 1. Since March 1 falls on a Sunday, applications received by 2:30 PM on March 2 will be accepted.

Please note that students may submit an application even if they have not yet had their scheduling meeting with their school counselor.

1. The HS Program of Studies and 26-27 Classroom Scheduling Presentation are available for your review as you finalize your student’s course requests. The Scheduling Presentation highlights our new course offerings for the upcoming school year.

1. Course requests may be submitted until April 30 by emailing your student’s school counselor. Please refer to the Schedule Change Calendar to ensure all deadlines are met.

Tardiness to school/class –

lates 1-3, warning, late 4 teacher detention, 8 = Administrative detention (or equivalent); subsequent lates-referral to office for additional consequences. Tardiness to class, study hall, lunch, homeroom – as above Subsequent offenses become office referrals.

Semester II began on Friday, January 29th - The Assistant Principals and Guidance Counselors met with students that had 6 or more lates to school for Semester I - to review the handbook and discuss ways to improve being on time.

The administrators are continuing to meet with students and have begun to issue detentions upon the 4th late to school. Students must be in their homeroom by 7:30 to be considered on time.

Since the FFA week was delayed by the snow, we are holding the Monday and Tuesday dress themes next week. All students are invited to participate.

Spring sports are right around the corner! If your child is interested in participating in baseball, softball, lacrosse, golf, or tack and field, please make sure they are registered as soon as possible. Students who are not cleared to play may not try out or practice. The link is below:

The New Jersey Student Learning Assessment–Adaptive (NJSLA-A) and the New Jersey Graduation Proficiency Assessment–Adaptive (NJGPA-A) are new versions of our statewide tests. These assessments help families and teachers understand how students are progressing with the New Jersey Student Learning Standards. The NJ DOE goal is to give families clear, useful information that supports learning and success.

What Can I Expect to Learn During the Information Sessions?

The New Jersey Department of Education, along with our assessment partner Cambium Assessment, Inc. (CAI), is hosting virtual information sessions to help families learn about the new tests. During each session, representatives from NJDOE and CAI will discuss:

• Why New Jersey gives statewide assessments

• How adaptive testing works

• What’s new in the upcoming NJSLA-A and NJGPA-A

• How these tests support students and families

Time will be made available for questions from participants. All sessions are free, virtual, and open to families. For those unable to attend, NJDOE will post the presentations for families to access at their convenience after the series concludes.
