New MFLC:  The Northern Burlington Regional School District is excited to welcome aboard our new Military and Family Life Counselor (MFLC) Ms. Tracie Kritch, LCSW.  Ms. Kritch will be working with military connected families in both the Middle & High School. She is available to provide confidential non-medical counseling services to students individually and in groups. Working with a counselor can help support healthy development, emotional regulation, and performance in school and relationships. MFLCs can be a support in adjusting to transitions within Military Life.  Common areas of focus are feelings identification, bullying, self-esteem, separation from parents, problem solving, sibling and parent relationships, time management, divorce, deployment, and reunification.  If you are interested in having your student meet with Ms. Kritch, please complete the electronic parent acknowledgement and consent form below.

School Calendar for Next Year (2024-25)

The board of education approved a tentative calendar for the 2024-2025 school year.  It can be found at this LINK.

Clinical Corner:

Since January is always the month that people commit or re-commit to exercise or at least try to, I thought this article I found might be helpful in encouraging your child/student to think about exercise/activity a little differently (and yourself!).  The article explains the concept of NEAT-Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis-all the calories that a person burns through their daily activity excluding purposeful physical exercise. The author Will Stone reports, “It’s not that NEAT should be considered a substitute for more structured bouts of intense physical exercise, which has its own well-established health benefits.  But revving up NEAT can be more accessible for some people, especially those who don’t exercise as much, if at all.”  It can help balance all the screen based activity we do which is largely sedentary.  Here are some examples of how adolescents and adults can incorporate NEAT into their day especially when it’s difficult to fit in a 30 or 60 minute workout:

  • Taking the stairs instead of the escalator at the mall

  • Bobbing your leg up and down at your computer(yes-fidgeting)

  • Shopping

  • Household chores

  • Making a meal

  • Getting coffee with a friend and walking with it

  • Even chewing gum!

The idea is just this:  move more!  The more you move, the more your body gets comfortable with it.  It’s really just about being mindful.  So maybe that is a good goal to start with and the extra movement will make working out easier too.  Either way, it seems that it’s a good thing to do.  For more on NEAT click here.

Winter Sports Spectators:  While we appreciate our students wanting to come out and support their classmates, we are not equipped to provide supervision to student spectators.  As a result, students who wish to watch a basketball game or wrestling match must first go home and then return with a responsible adult who will stay with them for the duration of the contest and then provide a ride home.

Bus Drivers Needed:  Please see this FLIER from our transportation office.  The district is looking for full and part time bus drivers.  The job includes free training to earn CDL, as well as flexible hours.  Feel free to share this flier with others who may be interested.

Have a good weekend.
