Middle School Parent Message

Good Afternoon,

Here are the updates from the middle school:

Community Service Project:  We are holding a school wide community service project on April 6.  As a school, we will be making bagged lunches to support the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK).  To help support this project, we are looking for donations in kind or cash donations.  Please see the following LINK.

On April 6, the plan is for our middle school students to work as a group during their classes making hundreds of PBJ sandwiches, wrapping utensils for meals, and putting together bagged lunches.

Thanks, in advance, for your generosity in helping us help others.

Middle School Musical:  The middle school’s musical, Into the Woods, premiers on March 31 with an encore presentation on April 1.  Tickets will be sold at the door starting at 6:30 pm. The curtain rises at 7:30 pm. Adult tickets are $8 and $5 for Students/Seniors with ID. Tickets are cash only, exact change appreciated. We hope to see you there!

Clinical Corner: Spring is here and so is also our difficulty focusing!  Warmer weather, longer nights, can make it hard to do the mundane things we need to do.  Your child/student is not immune to this phenomenon.   “There are numerous anecdotal pieces of evidence that some people feel energized, have higher spirits and sleep better in spring…light has acute alerting effects that can make people feel less depressed, more alert, cognitively better able to process tasks and feel more energetic within just a few minutes.” reports seasonal expert Kathryn A. Roecklein, Ph.D.  in an article from nbcnews.com titled, “This Is Your Brain on Spring Fever.”  Increased daylight can also improve mood which is why people who suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder, or SAD, tend to feel better this time of year.  For more detailed scientific information, including research correlating the brain(such as hippocampus size) and longer or shorter days, as well as hormones being affected, click here to read the article in full.  Hopefully, the benefits of the sun outweigh the negative effects of not wanting to put the time in to do things like schoolwork. The good news is usually, somehow it all ends up getting done!

A Message from your Northern Nurses:  The Medicaid continuous coverage policy, enacted as part of the 2020 Families First Coronavirus Response Act is set to expire March 31.

If your family/student is enrolled, please see these critical steps to ensure continued Health Care coverage:

New Jersey Department of Human Services

https://www.state.nj.us/humanservices/

☎ 800-701-0710

  • Families should watch their mail for letters about Medicaid and the state Children’s Health Insurance Program, or CHIP, status. (This program serves children in families that are low-income but fall above the Medicaid threshold.)

  • Recipients must submit any renewal forms they receive to maintain coverage, which states could mail at any point in the next year, between March 2023 and February 2024.

  • Families who no longer qualify for Medicaid after the review may qualify for coverage through their state’s health insurance exchange.

With the onset of Spring, hopefully we will continue to see declining numbers of sickness in our community. Please continue to carefully monitor your student and keep him/her home for any sick symptoms.

Please do not send students with sick symptoms to school.

Even though the community incidence rates are lower, the state requires that we track the number of COVID and Flu cases in our community and we will work with you and Administration to ensure students that are home sick have excused absences.

Contact our school nurse with any questions, tpugliese@nburlington.com.
