Student Return:

Monday, April 19 we will be welcoming back our in person students four days a week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday) on the same half day schedule we have been using.   For those families that indicated their child would be attending in person, we will combine all of our in person cohorts and those students will attend school in person those four days.  For now, Wednesdays remain remote for all students, however we are planning on returning to five days a week beginning the week of May 10th (see the MP4 Calendar link below).

To ensure that this goes smoothly and we make the transition successfully, we continue to remind all families that it is important to abide by the CDC guidelines to reduce the spread of COVID-19.  If we all do our part, we can move to this next step seamlessly.

For those returning to school in person for the first time, please read the directions for how to complete the daily health screen using a smartphone or Chromebook at this LINK.  It will speed up students’ entry into the building if all students have this screening completed and the QR ready when they arrive at school.

Also, for those students returning to school in person, masks that conform to CDC guidelines are required at all times, including while riding the bus.

At this time we cannot accept any requests for students who are in cohort E (all remote) who now wish to attend in person.

We are looking forward to this next phase of our reopening process.

Bussing:

If you need to confirm your student's bus stop and pick up time:

  • Please check under the transportation tab in the PowerSchool parent portal on the website, not the app

  • The section labeled “Description” is the bus stop location

  • The section labeled “Departure” is the time the bus is scheduled to arrive at the stop.

  •  As always please be at the stop 10 minutes before and remain for 10 minutes after the

scheduled pick up time to allow for an early or late pick up.

Administrative Team Update:

Ms. Caitlin Mallory, Director of Student Personnel Services, departs NB on April 23rd. Standardized Testing:

On April 7, 2021, the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) announced that, due to impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic, the US Department of Education has approved New Jersey’s request to waive the spring administration of the New Jersey Student Learning Assessments (NJSLA). Instead of the Spring 2021 NJSLA, students will be tested using the “Start Strong” assessments in ELA, Math, and Science in the Fall of 2021. As a result, this letter is to notify you that the NJSLA will not be given during Spring 2021. The assessment waiver only applies to the New Jersey Student Learning Assessments (NJSLA) statewide assessment program in English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, and Science. The NJDOE has advised that further guidelines regarding the “Start Strong” are forthcoming. We will provide you with updated information/guidance as we receive it from the NJDOE.

Message from the School Nurse:

The NJDOH recommends no student should attend school with any COVID-19 like symptoms until they have either received a negative viral test (molecular or antigen) for SARS-CoV-2 or they have completed an isolation period of at least 10 days since symptom onset and at least 24 hours after resolution of fever without fever-reducing medications with symptom improvement.

A Doctor's medical note without testing is no longer acceptable.

Please continue to share any COVID-19 cases or exposures with our school nurses. We ask that you directly contact your student’s nurse as this information is critical for monitoring community incidence & planning for safely keeping our school open.

High School East:  Mrs. Mary Crane - mcrane@nburlington.com   609-298-3900 x 2085

High School West:  Mrs. Gina Nocon - gnocon@nburlington.com   609-298-3900 x 2216

We will release any information about COVID-19 cases on Monday and Thursday as opposed to daily notifications.

New medical guidelines have been issued at the local and nationwide levels recommending any person who has been Covid-19 Positive or presumed (suspected) Covid-19 Positive must be medically cleared after COVID-19 infection and before participation in sports, gym, or any school physical activity as there is a risk of post-Covid cardiac complications. Although vaccines are available for some of the population and infection rates have decreased we are still experiencing a moderate level of infection in our area. Please remain vigilant with social distancing and mask wearing.

Please contact the school nurses with any questions.

Travel Advisories: As we anticipate the return to in person learning, please remember we must still adhere to NJ Travel Quarantine Advisories:  If your student travels outside our immediate area (New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, & Delaware), the student will need to quarantine for 10 days upon date of return to NJ.

Students are able to attend all of their classes virtually during that time, even if they are in the hybrid model.  In the event your child will be quarantining and attending school virtually during that time, please notify your child’s counselor & school nurse  A link to travel advisories is included below:

Health and Safety Reminder:

COVID-When to get tested

COVID Cannot test out of Quarantine

COVID-How-Long-Isolate-Quarantine

It is important to emphasize a few points with regard to health safety.  Most importantly, students should not come to school if they are sick.  The remote option is available on a day to day basis if a student has any symptoms on the day he or she is supposed to attend school in person but can still attend school at home.  If you have any medical questions, please contact our school nurse at extension 2216(west office) or 2085(east office).
