MS Parent Message August 7, 2020

August 6, 2020

Good Afternoon,

Here are a few updates from the middle school:

Hybrid Instruction for the Fall: Due to power outages, the deadline to register your child(ren) for return to school option is now Monday, Aug 10, 2020 at 9:00 am.  You must select either Option A (Hybrid) or Option B (100% Remote). Students not registered by  August 10 will be registered  in Option A (Hybrid).

In addition, parents are asked to indicate whether their son or daughter will attend school in person in September by completing a survey that is accessed through the parent account of Power School.  To complete the survey, please log in to PowerSchool, select ‘Forms’ on the left side, then select ‘Reopening Our Schools’ to complete the survey. Be sure to submit and complete one per student.

If you have difficulty accessing your PowerSchool Parent account, please view this helpful tutorial:

Middle School Sports:  At the presentation Monday, we talked about how it is anticipated that middle school sports will be scaled back as a result of the pandemic and, unfortunately, we will not be able to offer interscholastic competitions.  We are hopeful to be able to offer informal, intramural type competitions immediately after school.  Students who want to participate will still need to complete the sports physical packet that can be found here.

Chromebooks:  Monday, August 24th through Thursday August 27th NBC will distribute Chromebooks from 8 AM to 3PM, with one evening Wednesday, August 26th 3 PM - 8 PM to the families of the district. Each student will be issued a Chromebook for use during remote / virtual / or in-person instruction.

Everyone will need to pick-up a Chromebook and must sign up for a time slot in the ChromeBook Link.  Pick-up of Chromebooks will happen in the Middle School Media Center.  A parent or guardian will enter through the Island Road entrance and park in the Middle School Bus Lot and enter the Middle School Media Center that way.  The parent or guardian will need to wear their facemask to enter.

It is important that students have the chromebook and are ready to start school Tuesday, September 8th.

Please be sure to read the outlined procedure below prior to coming to the school

  1. Read NB One to One Technology use form on school website, under parent/student resources

  2. You will need to acknowledge on the Student/Parent Consent form that it has been read, which will be available through Powerschool beginning August 11th 2020.

  3. On the designated date and time, parents will drive to the Middle School Bus Lot and come into the Media Center through the entrance door(which will be marked). Six feet social distancing markers will be placed on the sidewalk leading up to the entrance.

  4. The parent or guardian will enter the Middle Center through the labeled door and Chromebook(s) will be distributed.

  5. Exit through the exit door that is marked

It is imperative that you come at your designated time,  follow all procedures for pick-up and drop-off of items and practice social distancing.

Locker Contents:  For those who did not pick up the bagged contents from last year’s locker, please contact the main office.  We will dispose of any bags left after Thursday, August 13.

Have a good weekend.

Sincerely,

Andrew Kearns, Ed.D.
